Welcome to the Year 2 class page. We work hard every day, always do our best and enjoy learning and we hope that you can see some of that in these pictures! We are a class of bucket fillers and know how to be kind and responsible. We really enjoyed the Let’s Get Growing topic for The World Around Us and are on the lookout for our butterflies which we released after watching them develop from caterpillars.

A Typical School Day in Year 2

9.00am Morning welcome and activity

9.15 – 10.30am: Literacy

10.30am Break

10.45am Relax and Breathe Activity

11.00am - Numeracy

12.05 - Daily Mile

12.15pm: Lunch Time

1.00pm- Curricular areas such as The World Around Us, Play, Religion, Personal Development and Mutual Understanding

• Thursday – Irish with Mrs McMahon, Outdoor Play
• Friday – Golden Time

Homework:

Homework is sent home each Monday in the Homework folder with usually two Literacy based and two Numeracy based tasks. Spellings are based on word families and simple high frequency words and there are two sheets for reinforcement to match each list every week. Homework can be completed on what evenings suit and the homework book should be returned on Friday. Children will choose a library book each Monday and we ask that this is also returned on Friday also.

We take reading groups at least five times over a two-week period but please try to read and go over any word / letter cards each night for reinforcement.

What to bring to school each day

• Homework folder containing reading book and reading record and words.
