The Yellow Brick Road
St. Dympna’s Primary School, marked a major milestone last week as pupils took to the stage for the school’s first ever full production, ‘The Yellow Brick Road’. Held on 25th, 26th and 27th March, the show drew delighted crowds of pupils from neighbouring schools, families and community members, all eager to witness the culmination of weeks of hard work, creativity and excitement.
Inspired by the beloved story of The Wizard of Oz, the production followed Dorothy as she is swept away from Kansas and finds herself in the magical land of Oz. Along her journey down the Yellow Brick Road to seek help from the mysterious Wizard, she meets the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion—each searching for something they believe they lack. Together, the characters face enchanted forests, troublesome creatures and the schemes of the Wicked Witch of the West before discovering that courage, love, intelligence and even the way home were within them all along
The production was held in the excellent neighbouring facilities at St. John’s Business & Enterprise College, the venue transformed into a storybook world thanks to the creativity of staff. Bright backdrops, carefully crafted props, and imaginative costumes helped bring each scene to life. From the bustling energy of Munchkinland to the sparkling entrance of the Emerald City, every detail reflected the dedication and teamwork of the entire school community.
Musical numbers were a particular highlight, with all pupils in Years 5-7 contributing to group songs, dances, and wonderful solo performances that filled the hall with emotion. Parents commented on the confidence and joy radiating from the performers, many of whom were taking to the stage for the first time.
As the final bows were taken, it was clear that St. Dympna’s first-ever school show had succeeded in more than entertaining audiences. It celebrated resilience, teamwork, creativity and the power of giving children a platform to shine.
For pupils, staff and families alike, The Yellow Brick Road will be remembered not only as a charming and colourful production, but as the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in the life of St. Dympna’s P.S.
