Girls Football (Sandra Kelly/CMNB Heats)

St Dympna’s girls put in two massive performances across a busy week of football, beginning with the semi-final of the Sandra Kelly Tournament on 24 April in Loughmacrory. A big thanks goes to St Therese’s for hosting and to the Kelly family for having us at such a special event. The girls were beaten by a single point after a heartbreaking last minute Glencull goal, but their effort and attitude were outstanding. They bounced back superbly when St Lawrence’s hosted the Cmnb heats on 29 April, recovering from a poor start to show real resilience and determination, battling their way to the final before losing out to a very strong Carrickmore side. With so many big schools in the section, reaching the final is a brilliant achievement in itself. This will be the first time in four years that the girls won’t make the county final day, which only highlights the consistently high standards within the ladies club.
